The eight speech theories are the marketplace of ideas, the participation in self-government, stable changes, individual self-fulfillment, checking on governmental power, the promotion of tolerance, the promotion of innovation, and to protect dissent. The theory I agree with the most is the one focused on individual self-fulfillment, because it is focused on ones personal freedom to say their opinion no matter what it is and what side it is on. I think it is good for everyone to do their own personal research to be sure about the political views they have and make sure it is fully aligned with their morals. "Congress shall make no law...abridging freedom of speech" (United States Court). This quote shows the heavy importance of saying whatever you want to and having your own personal opinions. This theory feels the most important because you don't want to attack someone for their personal thoughts. The one that feels the most personal to me is the marketplace of ideas. This one states that truth will always win out against false claims. It is very important to me to understand what is going on in the world outside of myself and what I interact with. It is important to know that the news I am viewing isn't lying to me or showing any fake images either. "Fake news is a perennial problem but really begins to ramp up in the election season as conspiracy theories and misinformation by bad actors aim to manipulate voters" (Tech Explore). This quote shows the significance of telling the truth as much as possible. Since it is almost election time this year there will probably be a lot more fake news and propaganda pieces from all sides showing up trying to get as many last minute extra voters as they can. This source also talks about a new AI which is supposed to help get rid of a lot of fake news and the ones who spread them. "The researchers' audience-based models outperformed the more common approach of looking at who's sharing misinformation by large margins: 33% when looking at historical data, and 69% when looking at sources as they emerge over time." (Tech Explore). Since the technology is still pretty new the data percentages are not very high but it is still interesting to learn that something similar to this may be possible in the future too. One theory I can still notice today is to Promote Innovation. This theory states that a community with more freedom of speech will thrive better then those with less freedoms of speech. If we could spread these eight theories to those around us we could help create a community similar to this. I have seen this personally that places where people can express themselves more and are more open to any kinds of opinions no matter what it is about are usually happier, friendlier, and more engaging. I think if we can continue to improve on this theory then more of us can be accepting and friendly to those who are outsiders that we have never seen before.
